Aces of Hearts

2020 Aces of Hearts Awards - EMS Recognition from AEMS on Vimeo.

AEMS is pleased to annually coordinate and sponsor a recognition program that honors EMS and Trauma professionals and volunteers serving Central Arizona. This year marks AEMS 19th year in recognizing those who have provided outstanding contributions that enhance and improve emergency medical and trauma care.

NOMINATION PROCESS

Any healthcare professional may nominate a colleague who is an EMS/Trauma professional serving the Central Arizona Region. All nominations will be submitted to and collected by AEMS. We will then organize all the nomination forms by agency/hospital. AEMS will identify and work with a primary contact person at the agency/hospital who will be responsible for selecting one final candidate from the *nominations received (*of individuals who work at their agency/hospital). While only the final recipients will actually receive the Aces of Hearts Award, ALL nominees will be acknowledged for their good work.

ELIGIBILITY

All Arizona healthcare professionals (aka the nominators) are encouraged and eligible to submit one nomination form with one nominee. The nominee must provide EMS or Trauma service in the Central Arizona region and may be either paid professionals or volunteers. Aces of Hearts awards are attended for individuals only - no nominations for groups allowed.

RECOGNITION

The recipients of the Aces of Heart Award will receive a special recognition honor during the 19th Annual EMS Odyssey Conference held June 12, 2020. All nominees will receive a special acknowledgement for their service.

To nominate a colleague, complete the nomination form on this page.

0 The nomination form on this page MUST be completed by March 15, 2020.

Note: the words described in your statement may be used as part of the awards ceremony

Someone once asked the great anthropologist Margaret Mead "What is the first sign you look for, to tell you of an ancient civilization?" The interviewer had in mind a tool or article of clothing. Ms. Mead surprised him by replying, "a healed femur."

Ms. Mead explained that when someone breaks their leg, they can't survive to hunt, fish, or escape enemies unless they have help from someone else. Thus, a healed femur indicated someone else helped that person, rather than abandoning them to save themself.

Margaret Mead believed that a civilized society is defined by the simple act of one human caring for another. It is also the essence of the emergency medical profession.

To volunteer for AEMS, you don't need to know what a femur (or a patella or a scapula) is. What is needed are a few good caring persons who wish to support an organization of other caring individuals.

If you are interested in volunteering, we would like to talk to you. Please call the AEMS office at (623) 847-4100. We look forward to hearing from you!
