While children account for only a small percentage of pre-hospital emergencies, they not only present special challenges, but may also be the most nerve-wracking for some EMS and prehospital care providers. As healthcare professionals, we know that children cannot be treated as simply “small adults”. Their anatomy and physiology are grossly different from that of an adult and thus require special consideration. Children are also at higher risk of traumatic injury because their internal organs are in closer proximity than in adults. Moreover, a child’s reactions, capabilities, and communication all differ due to their age, developmental stage, and experience in life.
The PEDS Aplenty, EMS Odyssey Pre-Conference, Pediatric Education Event, will provide EMS and prehospital providers with knowledge and skills to be better prepared - physically, mentally, and emotionally - on treating a child. Moreover, it will provide greater awareness about various pediatric emergencies to help reduce child mortality and morbidity. And participants may earn up to 8 CE Hours!
